Quick Tips For Creating a Darn Good Sales Pitch

November 9th, 2008

When I was in Shanghai this past month I was given an excellent sales pitch which left me extremely impressed. I didn’t end up making a purchase, but I picked up on a few really simple pointers on how to gain buy Prozac online attention of even the least interested buyer. I was up in Jinmao Tower in Shanghai and I was walking around the observatory, when I came across a table car insurance quotes on line two ladies making pearl necklaces.

Grab Their Attention

The first thing they said to me to get my attention was ‘May I see your ticket please?’ I was unable to divert my attention from them because they established themselves as officials. I showed them my ticket, and they then told me ‘You are eligible for a free pearl’.

Keep Their Attention

At this stage I thought, ‘okay, this better be free, I am not going to forget the fact that I was told I was getting this for free no matter what they say’. My eyes were then drawn to the second part of their table, where the lady was prying open oysters and giving letting the customers look at them.

When I got my turn I was going to just turn around and leave with the pearl, but the lady then said, ‘Would you like me to drill a hole through it so you can make it into a necklace? That is also free’. I said sure, why not. After all, it’s free. At this stage I know that the pearl is going to be mine by the end of the salespitch.

When she finished drilling the hole, she then said, ‘Because today is the 8th, we are giving away the necklace part for free too’ (The 8th was the day of the opening ceremonies at the Beijing Olympics). I said great, I will take that too.

She then told me that ‘if I had a friend or girlfriend I might want to consider getting a custom designed connector piece’ for my necklace. This was the first time anything which I had to buy was brought up. But because I already had a pearl, with a hole drilled in it, and a necklace, I just might find that useful.

I didn’t end up going for the necklace, because I guess I’m just too conscious about when somebody is making a salespitch to me. But to the average customer, I just might buy.

Turn Them Into a Customer

The pearl sellers took it slowly with me and gave themselves the best possible chance to get me to buy their necklace. Here’s what they did.

1. They caught my attention by establishing themselves as an authority/official. They did this not by trying to sell the product, but by engaging me with conversation.

2. They kept my attention with an actual demonstration of how the product was being made (Cool!).

3. They put a FREE product in my hand. (The Chinese absolutely love free stuff. More than us.)

4. They kept me at the table for an extended period of time, creating the illusion to myself that I am actually interested in a product which I had originally had NO intention to buy before.

5. They made me think about other people when making the purchase - girlfriend, life assurance quotes mom, etc. This made me consider of how much the product was worth to these other people in my life, not me. It almost made me buy it.

Don’t Sell, Pre-sell

The necklace sellers put all of their efforts into the PRE-sale, not the actual sale. They turned the product buying into an adventure, and made me consider buying something I would never seek to buy. That’s a little better of an effort than the vendors on the streets in China who ask you immediately to buy a watch or wallet from them.

How You Can Immediately Improve Your Sales Pitches

A good way to improve your sales pitches on your websites is to keep a dossier of what has and hasn’t worked as a sales pitch. In fact, soon after this little occurrence happened, I took down the details on my cell phone.

If you keep a record of what you find good and bad, what works and doesn’t work, what was unique and what turned you off, you are reminding yourself that you too are a customer. If you can look back at that, you will have a better grasp of the customer’s perspective, and how to turn on the light in their head that gets them into a buying mood.

Review of HuaWei E170 USB Stick Modem

November 8th, 2008

Introduction

In these recent years, with 3G and 3.5G being accepted as a common and popular mobile network, HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) becomes very crucial for road warriors, as they are much faster than GPRS network and easy to use.

A person will need a 3G or 3.5G-enabled devices to use this high-speed network (of course, this service is dependent on the Telecommunication Company of the country). It can be in-built in the devices already or it can be in an external unit.

This review is based on HuaWei’s USB Modem E170. HuaWei Technologies Co., Ltd has been aggressively promoting their USB Modems.

Main Content

HuaWei’s latest USB stick modem is much smaller than its predecessor (E220). Technically, this USB stick modem is actually a modem, an USB flash, a virtual CD-ROM drive.

In this review, I will be using the modem from Singapore Telecommunication operator, Starhub.

The Package

The package from Starhub comes in only white colour with a Starhub logo. It is packaged into a DVD size cover with the modem itself and an extended cable. The major difference between E220 (the predecessor) and this E170 is cheap Viagra E170 itself has already a USB connection point. In normal operation, you will not need to use the extended cable. In the operation manual, it states that this cable may be used to enhance the signal. You will need to purchase the SIM Card separately for this modem. Or you can use your existing SIM Card on it. Starhub bundled this package with an unlimited Data SIM Card that is easy to install onto the device.

The Modem

The modem is very light and the finishing is of high quality. The size is slightly bigger than a convention thumb drive. The Dimensions is 80.5mm long by 24.1 mm on the width and 11.8 mm thick. It is glossy white in color and extremely well made. The USB connection is hidden with a cover that is quite sturdy. The cover comes with a silver dwi auto insurance for you to hang this device around. Near to the USB connection port is the SIM Card holder. It is carefully hidden and flushed with the overall design. I wouldn’t be too sure about that as the device may drop off if it is being pulled (and you are left with a cover only).

The Connection

As mentioned previously, this modem is a virtual CD-ROM drive. Reason being that the software is flashed into it and it is detected as a CD-ROM drive when plugged in. A Dell laptop was used for this connection check. It took about 5 minutes to setup the modem automatically. You will be prompt for the first time to install the software into the computer. It is a compulsory step. After the installation, the Starhub connection panel will show up and you just need to click on the connect icon. Starhub connection is based on HSDPA/HSUPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS/GSM.

It takes a minute for it to connect (the modem that I have is without password. Therefore, it is automatically connected when I push the connect icon).

The main panel will show connected once it is done and on the bottom right hand corner of your computer, you can see the Starhub modem logo.

On the main panel itself, you can switch to the statistics page to see the upload and download speed with a nice graph. There is also the text and phone book page that I did not explore. Basically, according to Starhub, the SIM Card is a data card that could not be used for calling. However, basic text messaging is possible. As for the phone book, it is the contacts storage of the SIM card. For this bundle, there are 500 contact slots.

The Performance

Ideally, the download speed for this modem using the Starhub service should be 7.2Mbps. However, the actual performance showed otherwise. This could be due to the signal strength and download sharing factors.

A few tests were done on a website by clicking a link on it to a heavily pictured page and also by refreshing this same page. Both results were satisfactory as it can be loaded within a minute.

The connection is stable. In fact, this unit was tested with Skype and webcam. It has a little lag but this may be due to the other party wireless connection. Therefore, this is not conclusive.

The Usage

This little device is best for Road Warriors to download emails and surf the Internet. As the form factor is small, it can be easily carried around. With an unlimited Data plan, this unit can be connected to the Internet all day without worrying about the bills.

The HSDPA Downlink is 7.2Mbps & HSUPA Uplink 2Mbps, it is still not the fastest as compared to a LAN network. It is not intended for gaming and if you have many heavy files to upload, you may feel the lagging.

If you intend to use it overseas, please check with your Telecommunication operator on the overseas data rate. It may cause a huge dent in your wallet.

Conclusion

Overall, this device serves the basic purpose of connection on the move. With is small form factor, it can be carried anywhere. The connection speed is very dependent on the telecommunication operator. With testing on the previous model (E220) at a 1.8Mbps to 3.6Mbps, some connection heavy task could be quite taxing. You should seriously consider the minimum standard of 7.2Mbps downlink if you wish to use it frequently. It is a Must-Have item for Road Warriors at this moment.

Youthful Company President Commits Faux Pas in Hollywood

November 6th, 2008

A few years ago I worked with three other coaches to facilitate a program for a medium-sized financial services company. The company car insurance cover started several years earlier by their up-and-coming CEO and is still privately held. Our program was built around car to donate topic of internal communications. This company has always had a great outward appearance to its customers, but internally there was much room for improvement. We hoped to tag on to some additional work there, including coaching for their managers and above as well as additional group facilitation.

The CEO liked the work we did, but regarding any future business with his company, he left all negotiating with us in the hands of his company president and the training manager. These two individuals did not get along well with one another and I sensed that the training manager was looking for another job (which turned out to be true).

The president of the company was a very young woman. Because she was so young, I thought that the CEO could have been more directive with her regarding internal matters. “This is a woman who could really use a coach,” I thought to myself as I observed her during our program day. At the time, she was also getting national media exposure as an expert in her field, which I sensed she enjoyed (but I was not so certain that she was ready for all that came with national exposure).

Recently, I read a piece of news with her name in it. The piece said that she attended a dinner in Hollywood at which many people from the entertainment industry (mostly directors and producers, plus a few actors) were also in attendance. During the evening she made some remarks from the podium, a few of which raised the hair on the backs of the necks of some attendees.

It seems she didn’t quite do her homework regarding her audience for that evening. In her remarks, she defended the actions of a personal friend of hers in the entertainment industry who several people in the audience believe bilked them out of thousands of dollars.

I think it’s a lesson that anyone who is placed in a high leadership position at a relatively young age will benefit greatly from honest coaching that guides them through potential landmine fields without invoking any to explode.

It would have behooved the CEO of that organization to have brought in a coaching plan, which would have provided leadership development for several leaders, without singling out the young president. In the news piece I mentioned, his company name was also in print, as his president is always mentioned as being the president of the firm when she is called on as an expert in her field.

Whether a company leader is quite young or is simply in a fairly new position (even if they have a lot of experience already), getting a business coach to navigate the waters for about six months is a good way to make certain that embarrassing surprises don’t happen. Rather, with this type of focused leadership development you get what you need to guide your decision making in the right direction.

Cars Are Not Built to Turn Over Or Why You’re Not Prepared to Drive a High Performance Car

November 4th, 2008

We read, almost daily, about horrific accidents involving cars over turning, skidding off the road or smashing into immovable objects. The sad thing is that the majority of these incidents are completely avoidable. Accidents caused by a part failure are a minuscule part of the problem, even driver error is not the prime cause. It is driver ignorance and in some cases e by driver arrogance. Cars will usually spin. The poorly trained driver behind the wheel is generally responsible for turning them over.

Driving schools that exist Sell structured settlement get you a license (or renewal), both public and private are geared to help you pass the state test requirements. Other than learning the law, basic rules of the road and how to pull away from the curb, drive in some traffic and park, virtually nothing is taught about the potential death machine that you’re driving. So called “Advanced” driving schools put on by high performance car manufacturers like Porsche, BMW, Lotus, Corvette, etc. do teach a little more. On a closed circuit, they can let you know what it feels like to go over the usual posted highway speed and how to get to that speed quickly. If you’re lucky, you’ll learn a little bit about balance, cornering and breaking properly. What are you not learning?

Did you know that when you sit in a car the first thing to do is properly adjust the seat? Sitting back and deep, you should be able to rest hosted call center wrists on the top of the steering wheel without stretching - torso should be 10 to 12 inches from the air bag compartment. Sitting with your rear end deep in the seat allows you to feel things happening before your brain records a visual image - early anticipation, quicker reaction time. Next adjust all of your mirrors so that you have an unobstructed view from 1 lane width to the right rear of your vehicle to 1 lane width to the left - more if your mirrors allow - new mirrors if they don’t. The easiest way to set the mirrors is to have someone stand one car length behind and equivalent to a lane width away and slowly walk across to an equal distance on the other side.

USE THE MIRRORS FREQUENTLY - NOT JUST WHEN PLANNING TO CHANGE LANES.

All cars SHOULD have a 5 point harness for both the driver and front passenger seat, but practicality precludes that from happening. All drivers of super performance cars that want a chance to walk away from a high speed accident, MUST install a 5 point harness. Some of these cars already come with a 4 point harness like Lotus, Lamborghini, et al., however I have seen serious leg injuries when the driver actually slides through the unsecured bottom. People have no idea of the stress on the equipment and body during a sudden stop from high speed. The most chilling example was Dale Earnhardt, harnessed tightly into his race car, died when his body extended far enough for his face to impact the steering wheel - and he wasn’t going all that fast. I saw a passenger who had slid most of the way out of a 4 point harness in a Porsche and wind up with most of her person under the dash.

OK. Now we’re in the car and ready to go. Did you know that cars only want to go in one direction - straight ahead? Any time you turn the wheel only 2 wheels want to change direction and if you have a real wheel drive car, the back wheels are still pushing the car straight ahead. In a front wheel drive car, the front wheel want to go straight in the new direction that you are pointing them, but the back wheels have to be pulled around - they wanted to keep going straight. Have you figured out that the car is now out of balance and a mistake on wet ground or high speed is greatly magnified. Once you turn the wheel, even a little bit, all the dynamics change. The tires do not have an equal amount of surface on the road, some of the springs are compressing and want to go back to their original configuration, some of the springs are stretching and also want to return to normal and because the car is still trying to go straight you are losing (scraping off) speed. If you then apply the breaks while turning, you greatly exaggerate everything that happens and can conceivably cause the rear end to get so loose it starts the car into a spin.

All of this is just the beginning of learning defensive driving in, what could easily become, an offensive missile. The solution can be relatively inexpensive compared to what your life is worth. Take advantage of the many car club driving schools. Most are open to the public, inexpensive (most clubs are non-profit), and, if the club has a history of running competition events like Race Weekends, Time Trials , Autocross, etc., they probably have talented instructors who have mastered all of the pit falls.

HDMI vs DVI

October 28th, 2008

HDMI vs DVI, what is the difference? Which one is better? Are DVI and HDMI compatible? And of course, given the choice, penile dysfunction one should you use? The differences (or lack there of) may surprise you. Lets take Select Quote life insurance look at each of them then evaluate the differences.

Digital Visual Interface (DVI) is a digital standard introduced in 1999 by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG). It is designed primarily for carrying uncompressed digital video data to a display. Originally the display was a computer monitor but DVI is now commonly used for television as well. One of the main areas of confusion with DVI is the number of different connectors available, which represent different functionality. There are three main connection types for DVI, DVI-D (digital only), DVI-A (analog only) and DVI-I (digital & analog).

High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), released late in 2002, is an all-digital audio/video interface capable of transmitting uncompressed streams of data similar to DVI. However HDMI also provides the ability to carry audio signals, in addition to video, as well as incorporating HDCP, which is a Digital Rights Management technology.

So what is the difference?
When looking at the differences between HDMI and DVI we find they actually have more in common then differences. They both support digital transmission; they also are based on similar specifications since HDMI was derived from the DVI specification. There are two big differences:
HDMI incorporates content protection called High Definition Content Protection (HDCP).
HDMI supports audio in addition to digital video. (DVI only supports digital video)

Are DVI and HDMI compatible?
Is HDMI compatible with DVI? Since DVI is the Massachusetts Lemon Laws to HDMI, HDMI and DVI are identical as far as video is concerned. Therefore, video backward compatibility exists. However, DVI will not support digital audio. For example, if you have an older DVI connection on your source and a HDMI connector on your display, a HDMI to DVI cable is all that is needed in order to view the video. A separate audio cable (TOSLINK or SPDIF) will be needed to carry the digital audio.

A Warning about Cable length
The HDMI specification does not define a maximum cable length. HDMI 1.3 defined two categories of cables: Category 1 (standard or HDTV) and Category 2 (high-speed or greater than HDTV) regardless, neither HDMI or DVI work well over distances greater then 15 feet. If you need a cable longer then 10 feet you will definitely want to consider top quality cables. For anything greater then 15 feet, some companies offer amplifiers, equalizers and repeaters that can help bridge longer distances.

Which one should I use today?
If available, we recommend HDMI. This is not because it is any better then DVI, only because the industry will heavily push HDMI due to the HDCP Digital Rights Management technology. However you should not expect any difference when moving from DVI to HDMI, therefore if you have DVI already, stick with it until the instant car insurance quote standard comes around. A little off topic, but still of relevance is that you may be able to get similar quality video by using your existing Component connections. A common misconception is that Component cannot carry HDTV quality video, which is incorrect. Depending on the components in your system you may get the same or better performance with a Component connection then with a HDMI or DVI connection.

Will Green Hard Drives Go the Distance?

October 27th, 2008

As Joel Hruska from Ars Technica says, green is the new black in the hosting aspnet industry. Everything is going green, from data centres to hard drives, and IT companies are doing their utmost to be seen as part of the environment solution and not part of the problem. Hard drive manufacturer, Western Digital, got into the game a while ago with its line of efficient GreenPower hard drives. They have recently extended their range with the launch of the new enterprise storage division: RE2-GP. The RE2-GP exchange server hosting come in three sizes: 500GB, 750GB and 1TB.

With all the hype and activity surrounding the rush to go green, Hruska questioned whether all developments were effective and delivered on their promises, or whether companies were simply climbing on the bandwagon and sticking a “green” label on their products. Happily, in Western Digital’s case, it appears as though they are the real deal.

Western Digital’s new drives make use of three different systems, Debt Matters work in conjunction to make the RE2-GP up to 40% more efficient than their competitors, without sacrificing performance or reliability. They also claim that while in use, the RE2-GP uses 4 to 5W less power than competitors’ hard drives.

The three systems which make up the RE2-GP are: IntelliPower, which manages the transfer rate, spin speed and caching algorithms; IntelliPark, which controls the drive heads, and reduces drag by moving them off the disk while the entire system is idle; and IntelliSeek, which calculates exactly how fast the drive heads need to move for the system to function continuously. The drive heads then move at the optimum speed and no faster, which reduces power consumption.

Western Digital estimates that the biggest power savings will be seen in data centres, where companies can expect to save $10 (R70-80) per RE2-GP drive installed. In sum, large companies that make use of multiple hard drives can save tens of thousands of Nebraska Lemon Laws per year (or hundreds of thousands of Rands).

Western Digital’s GreenPower drives and RE2-GP systems were reviewed by The Tech Report, which reported that they are as power efficient as they claim to be. This is good news for green computing endeavours on the whole, as various companies’ efforts are vindicated and technology is proved to work just as well as traditional computing methods. It also encourages other companies to give green a try, which is essential in driving competition and the evolution of technology. Only time will tell if these efforts stand up to the demands of consumers in the long-term, but the important thing is that, for the moment, steps are being taken to address a pressing environmental problem.

A Mortgage Refinance is Not Always Appropriate

October 26th, 2008

Right now refinancing is very popular as many people are trying to avoid low cost call conferencing subprime crisis or anything like it. When the market is shaky, many people start looking at all of their bills to see if they can make any changes that will make things more affordable. Many times refinancing can help you lower your monthly payments to make your overall financial life much more stable. While it can be very appealing to just jump into a mortgage refinance loan, this isn’t always the best option.

Mortgage Refinance May Not be for You

Before you get carried away with the idea of saving through mortgage refinance, you may want to slow down and actually do the math. There are many times when people get carried away with the idea of saving through refinancing that they don’t bother to do the math. Depending on what sort of loan that you have now, the costs associated with refinancing do not justify the savings because they are so limited. This is why many experts say that if you are refinancing simply to save on your monthly payment that you should not bother if you are not going to lower your interest by at least two to structured settlement buyer percent! This is huge and when you can lower it by this much it is worth it, but many times you cannot get this much of a change in interest rate due to market rates.

A mortgage refinance may not be for you depending on how much longer you are going to be in your home. You can refinance at any time, but when you refinance you need to consider how long it is going to take for the process to pay for itself. It is not uncommon for refinancing to take 42 to 63 months to pay for itself and if you don’t plan on being in the home for that long, it may not be worth refinancing at all. Have your mortgage banker help you do the math to determine how long it will take for the loan to pay for itself and see if it is worth refinancing or if you should just stick it out until you move.

When you are looking at mortgage refinance you really need to be cognizant of the numbers. It is easy to get caught up in the expectation of saving only to find that you aren’t going to save at all. When you start applying for refinance loans you really need to pay attention to the numbers to be sure that the costs and the savings all mesh together accident at work claims Sometimes the actual cost of the loan is more than the savings. You might be wondering how this can happen, but when you refinance you are paying three to six percent of the principal balance on the loan, which usually means thousands of dollars.

The bottom line is that you should not simply rush into refinancing assuming that you will save. You need to be very careful and see what you can do at every turn to save on any fees associated with the loan. If the costs get to be too out of hand you may very well be better off sticking with the loan that you already had and waiting for a more opportune time to refinance and change things up a little bit more.

Monday Night Football Trivia - Part 2

October 25th, 2008

Mercury Mariner Hybrid Features

October 23rd, 2008

With all the high house insurance quotes prices out there, hybrid vehicles are continuing to become more popular among drivers. There are a few SUV hybrid choices out there, and the Mercury Mariner hybrid seems to be the most popular safe auto insurance those choices. Check out some of the features of the Mercury Mariner hybrid and what sets itself apart from the other hybrids.

For the most part consumers seem pleased with this SUV hybrid, and reviewers say that the handling is respectable. While maybe not glowing praise there, the power steering was designed to be sensitive to the speed in which the vehicle is traveling. In this respect the enhanced steering is an improvement. However, many people are finding that small SUVs have better steering capabilities than the Mariner and that this hybrid is not conforming.

The power steering is providing the engine with what is known as a lower drag and this improves the gas mileage. This also makes the Mariner drive more like a truck that a car. The suspension is not built for off-road driving, but it’s perfect for paved surfaces, and the vehicle handles flatly going through corners while retaining its composure on fast transitions.

58.8 miles per hour will give the consumer better gas mileage, but the nature of hybrid SUVs tend to be slower and lacking the same power as regular vehicles. With gas prices being what they are, that slowness is less of an issue than normal. This should be one of the first things anyone interested in purchasing any hybrid SUV should ask about if only to get a good idea of how the vehicle will perform.

Does this mean that the Mercury Mariner donating a car SUV is not a good vehicle choice? That there are others out there better than this Ford model? No. The Mariner can do zero to sixty in 10.8 seconds from a dead standstill. So what? Unless you are planning on a career drag racing this is a respectable number and well within the established limits of the hybrid SUV economy.

The power train is the big ticket item in this SUV and the one thing people talk up the most. It’s powerful and can move the SUV 25 miles per hour solely on electric alone. The four-cylinder engine is a DOHC 2.3-liter that utilizes and well-known and admired Atkinson operating cycle. There are 330-volt nickel-metal battery packs in the motor that have designed for the hybrid sealed inside.

The variable transmission arrangement in the Mariner also provides seamless acceleration on both the gas driven and electric driven engines. That means your hybrid SUV starts out on the gas and eventually shifts to the electric motor as the acceleration continues to rise. Braking causes mechanical energy to be converted and then stores in the rechargeable batteries. This is actually pretty efficient and it eliminates the need to plug the vehicle in to an electrical outlet.

Gas Mileage and Environmental Issues

Ford is touring the Mercury Mariner SUV hybrid as being one of the ‘greenest and cleanest’ vehicles they have ever designed and manufactured. It falls under the strict Super Low Emissions Vehicle classification which is a clean-air standard most of the states in America have gone to following. As a result of this design engineering, the Mariner has also qualified to be listed as being labeled an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle. This is saying a equity line of credit rates because getting this award and label is very difficult.

The Mariner produce 1 gram of carbon monoxide per mile, nitrogen oxide at 0.02 grams per mile, and unburned hydrocarbon at 0.01 gram each mile. This numbers are extremely low when put side by side with the numbers regular cars produce. The Mariner’s exhaust emissions are dang near non-existent.

Fuel economy right now is a serious issue, but the SUV comes in at 33 miles per gallon in city driving and 29 miles per gallon on the open road. This is opposite of what most cars get, but part of that has to do with the electric motor. Remember, braking helps recharge the battery and there is considerably more stop and go traffic in the city than on the open road.

The fuel economy in a Mercury Mariner Hybrid comes from three different things. The power train helps stretch the mileage of every gallon of gasoline to its fullest. The unique CVT system takes care of running the engine, and finally the gasoline engine switched over to the electric motor when sitting idle, slowing down and moving at slow speeds. All of these help keep the fuel consumption to a minimum, giving you more gasoline for your money.

Final Features

The Mercury Mariner Hybrid SUV is priced at around $26,000. This figure is competitive plus Ford points out that their environmentally sound product is socially responsible.

The Mariner also has one of the best safety systems. Other than the safety belts and airbags mentioned earlier, it also has a SecuriLock anti-theft system, tire pressure monitoring system that show up on the dash console, and an anti-lock brake system. It also has remote key-less entry.

It is reliable and durable with a power system that is going to be difficult to improve on. It handles well in all weather conditions and there is no question why it has won all the awards and recognition is has. The Mercury Mariner Hybrid SUV is definitely a good choice in hybrid vehicles. Even Consumer’s Digest thinks so. It gave it a ‘Best Buy’ award already for 2008.
